Charles Schlueterhad been principal trumpet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra(BSO) for 25 years when he retired in 2006.He also held positions with the Kansas City Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, and the Minnesota Orchestra.He studied with William Vacchiano at the Juilliard School and is a teacher at the New England Conservatory of Music.A partial list of his students include Andrew Balio, (principal of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra), Roderick Macdonald (principal trumpet of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra), Jeffrey Work and David Bamonte (principal and assistant principal of the Oregon Symphony Orchestra).In 2001 he founded The Charles Schlueter Foundation, a non-profit organization "to encourage communication among brass players and to advance the level of performance, teaching and literature associated with brass instruments".He was Boston Musicians Association musician of the year in 2006.
Ronald Barron has been principal trombonist of the BSO since 1975. He previously held positions with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and served as principal trombonist of the Boston Pops for thirteen seasons. Ron is a graduate of the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati, studying with Ernest Glover. During his college years, he toured with the American Wind Symphony. In 1974, he shared the highest prize awarded at the Munich International Competition, performing Frank Martin's Ballade for trombone and orchestra with the competition sponsor, the Bavarian State Radio Orchestra. He is a frequent soloist with the Boston Pops Orchestra and with many New England area orchestras and bands as well as performing recitals in Europe and Japan. Ron has recorded and performed with the Canadian Brass, Empire Brass, and Summit Brass, and has five successful solo recordings. He has been a faculty member for the International Trombone Workshop and the Keystone Brass Institute, and teaches at Boston University, the New England Conservatory of Music, and the Tanglewood Music Center.
